Spain bans smoking in enclosed public spaces. Bars and restaurants under 100 m2 to be smoking or non smoking. Hotels and larger establishments will be 70% non smoking. Fines for those who don't comply with the new legislation which came into force on 1st January, 2006.
Europe insists that airlines should compensate passengers in cases of cancelled or re-scheduled flights at short or no notice. The travel trade believes that air fares will increase as a result. It may be best to book summer holidays to Spain early!
Carnival approaches. The Sitges Carnival starts at the end of February. Not to be missed, but for those who'd prefer to party in the sunshine, why not escape to the beaches of the Canary Islands of Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote or Fuerteventura, where winter sun is more-or-less guaranteed.
