Short breaks are a good choice for those who'd like to get away during the mid or low seasons. A few days in the sunshine perhaps, or spend the time viewing properties independently.

No ties to particular start days, so arrive any day of the week. Stay for as little or as long as you like. See the sights, relax or go shopping - buy cheaper in Spain and get the price of your stay back in savings! What's more, most of May is low season in Spain; it's fiesta time, so a good excuse to party.

Ideas for Short Breaks in Spain

Gerona/Reus/Barcelona

Gerona is the gateway to the Costa Brava. Well known resorts such as Lloret De Mar and Tossa De Mar are less than an hour away from Gerona airport. Ryanair flies to Gerona from the U.K. however most major tour operators have flights there in 2004. Try  Thomson Flights for flights from a large selection of UK airports. Barcelona is about an hour away by train or hire a car  . Explore the surrounding countryside. Golfers are well catered for, the area has several golf courses. Staying in resorts such as Blanes or in Calella De La Costa is convenient for the train to Barcelona. Hotels are usually cheaper in these resorts than in the city centre.

Further south on the Costa Dorada lies Salou. In summer Salou is very much a party place. If this isn't your scene try more sophisticated Cambrils. Visit PortAventura the theme park, which is very close to Salou. For good rates at Costa Brava and Dorada hotels and apartments try AlphaRooms.

Valencia

More people are choosing the "Orange Blossom" coast as a place to find a holiday home. Traditionally tourists flock to cities such as Barcelona, Madrid or Granada to view the famous sites and tourist attractions, but Valencia is well worth a visit. Thomson Fly has a new route between Coventry UK and Valencia, or try GB Airways via British Airways website for scheduled flights. Booking a scheduled flight via Travel Select or Expedia could save you money and time because you can check for the best fares from various scheduled airlines.

Bilbao

Home to the Guggenheim museum. Don't arrive Mondays, museums are generally closed on Mondays! You can fly to Bilbao with Easyjet, or scheduled airlines of course. For a cheap room Accor Hotels have opened an Etap hotel in the general area. Not in the city centre, but a cheaper alternative with rooms accommodating more than 2 people. Book direct with Etap Hotels.

Coastal Breaks

A short break doesn't have to be in the city. A few days by the sea on the Costa Almeria, Costa Blanca, Costa Del Sol or in the Balearics may be the answer for you. May Fiestas

May is fiesta time all over Spain. Jerez in Andalucia is home to the famous horse fair, held in 2004 between 9th and 16th May. Torrevieja on the Costa Blanca has it's own version, although not southern Spain, the atmosphere in Torrevieja mid May is most definately Spanish with flamenco and shows throughout the festival week.
